Suppose that men who place physical attractiveness and a certain body type above all else are more likely to cheat because they are ruled more by hormones than by a sense of bonding. It might follow that they are much more likely to marry a skinny woman because it's more of a priority than whether she's a decent person. (Of course she might be a decent person anyway, but that's not where I'm going.) In that case, the men with skinny wives are not more likely to cheat just because they have skinny wives, but men who have skinny wives are more likely to have skinny wives because it fits the profile of a cheater. So in the other person's example, the cause and effect part was wrong, but a consequence would be that men who do not cheat are less likely to put looks and weight above all else if this hypothesis is true. So it may be that there's a correlation between weight and cheating, but it may not be causal. Having a skinny wife does not cause cheating. But having her bitch at you all day might do it. (ducks! Just kidding!) Another factor is that women tend to put on weight as they get older. So do men. There are plenty of women who are size 12 who used to be size 6, but not so many who are size 6 (and stay that way) who used to be size 12. It may be that as men get older, they are less likely to cheat, and they and their wives are both getting fatter as a natural consequence. Of course I can't tell any of this from what I read, and after I wrote this I looked at the article, which said nothing useful. In order to figure out anything, you need a good multivariate analysis, and you have to factor in age, weight, height, attractiveness (which is vague but must be quantified to the extent possible as a subjective measurement from the viewpoint of the spouse) income, cultural background, religion, extent of religious belief, shoe size, race, favorite color, length of hair, length of penis, etc. posted by: dangerkitty (reply) post date: 05.14.04 (11:31 am) Reply to: mblog There are alot of things to be taken into account. Like I said I cannot determine how the study was conducted. Nothing was said about sample size or the proportion of cheating men in the sample or the proportion of men in the sample with wives size 14 and up. The results of a survey of cheating spouses suggests that men are more likely to cheat if their spouse is skinny. Sounds counter-intuitive. Hmmm...I have no idea how scientific the study is but it found that 64% of the men surveyed with wives size 12 and below admitted to cheating compared with 20% of men with wives above size 12. How much stock can you put in these articles you find on the internet anyway?
