TV Land
05.19.06 (3:46 pm)   [edit]
Well in TV Land, Veronica Mars gets to go to college, 7th Heaven gets an 11th hour reprieve, One Tree Hill gets another chance to bore us with the vacuous Chad Michael Murray while Everwood is dead wood. Or is it?

While Smackdown may never be considered the height of intelligent television, I understand why the 'good' people at the CW (lamest name ever) have kept it on their line-up. In general, WWE shows like Smackdown or Raw or whatever don't bother me because they never claim to be anything more than they are - one part sports entertainment, one part soap opera (with bad acting and bare-chested men included) and all parts cheese. Not sure, but watching oversized men and cosmetically enhanced women pretending to beat the crap out of each other might count as a guilty pleasure.

So, my bitterness does not stem from there. Shows like 7th Heaven (misguided and overbearing after-school special dusguised as a modern family drama) and One Tree Hill (a soapy, tired and irrelevant drama parading talentless and banal actors at camera angles that would flatter Joan Rivers) don't deserve a new episode much less an order of 22. This is where my bitterness lies. I guess there wasn't room enough for two high-quality and critically acclaimed but low-rated TV shows on one fledgeling network. R.I.P., Everwood. I hardly knew you, especially since the WB treated you worse than the redheaded stepchild of Joan Crawford.

I guess since we are in TV Land, we must also talk about the lack of intelligent characters on Lost (excluding Sayid, of course) and the death of the 'beautiful' and fragile Marissa Cooper on The OC. R.I.P, Marissa - you were as boring in death as you were in life. To add insult to injury, you've been replaced by an even more boring and vacuous clone, Kaitlin (woodenly played by over-exploited child of the moment, Willa Holland). Yeah, some say the OC jumped the shark in Season 2. For those who were hanging on, last night was your final notice.

Rocked: Grey's Anatomy (Denny, noooo!), Amazing Race, Prison Break.
Sucked Big Donkey Balls: 24 (no, really, nothing happened), Invasion (boring), American Idol (I don't care any more).

What I will be watching tonight: NBA Playoffs - Can the Cavs dethrown Detroit in the East? Can the Mavs dethrown San Antonio in the West? Magic 8 Ball says "God if I know!"
