Visiting The Godfather
08.16.04 (6:45 pm)   [edit]
Over Jamaica's Independence weekend, Mom and I drove out to the North Coast to visit with the Godfather. He's an interesting character to say the least. You never know what to expect. That Saturday he took us to see his newest acquisition, Descansada. He tried to be sly in explaining how he sort of fell into buying this new property, Descansada, on a hill with a spectacular view of the sea but we knew better. The exterior of the house is lovely except for some columns on the carport that the previous owner had painted fuscia. I'm sorry that I can't provide you with a photo, then again your eyes will thank me. The Godfather met with his architect and I overheard their plans to almost gut the place. So many walls are set to be knocked out that I'm not sure how the house will remain standing. Anyway, I did manage to take some photos.

A view from the Godfather's house.
Every window has these old school hurricane shutters which I love.

The Godfather himself relaxing on a balcony.
This balcony will be no more once the G-man has his way.

Looking down at the pool.
In the distance you can see the main road that connects Ocho Rios to Montego Bay and beyond that you see the seawall and the Caribbean Sea itself.

Mommy dearest.
Another balcony set for destruction.

From a distance.
All seems calm. When it's all said and done, you won't recognize the place.

For a place whose name means rest, things are about to get really busy.

Because the jobs aren't there. You have to have a brickload of money to live well in Jamaica and I don't.
