Kudos to her for her ingenuity! Moms are good at that! My mom's house got hit by a tornado about 5 years ago - she refused to stay with me afterwards - 3+ weeks without power or hot water... (And I lived 15 mins away!!!) The news coverage does tend to focus on the worst side of things. I was disappointed with the Frances coverage of the Bahamas as well - thank goodness for the internet! I was able to get a msg to/from my friends via a bulletin board where someone knew of them and relayed messages back/forth. (How cool was that!?!?) Was her home damaged at all? I hope the power is back on soon. Otherwise she's gonna be trying to make chocolate cake using a candle too! After reading the news that Ivan's death toll across the Caribbean had hit 65, I got through to my Mom this morning, much to my relief. She still has no running water or electricity but miraculously the phone lines are still open. She said the water came back for a few hours lastnight and she was able to fill the tanks, etc, but it was gone again in the morning. My Mom is Mrs. MacGyver. She made scrambed eggs for breakfast using several candles and an aluminium tray. She made tea using a similar contraption. She says she's fine and that she was able to go up and have dinner at my Aunt's house.
