Should Malls have teen curfews?
09.17.04 (9:49 am)   [edit]
Several shopping malls across America have curfews for unchaperoned teenagers, some as early as 6pm. How do you feel about this? I'm not a teenager and not having to walk through packs of them to get around the mall is nice but I was once a teenager and the Mall was always a safe place to hang out. If you kick them out of the malls, where will they go? They will find a place. They're not all going to run home and hang out with Mom and Dad. Also, whatever happened to the studies showing the rise in teen-spending power? The "mallrats" you boot out today will be the consumers you crave in the future. I dunno. Please share your views here.

in the UK we used to have Youth Clubs.. kids... teenagers could hang out there, play pool. drink soft drinks and check out the jukebox. i think the world has grown up a little since then and all mallrats wanna do si spend time pretending to be grownups by hanging round malls because there is nowhere for them to go.

There is a mall near where I live. Many young people hang out there. There are lots of movie theaters and restaurants, and the young people spend money there too. They are not just "hanging out" and scaring old folks like me.

They are the consumers of today and they are not causing trouble. If my children end up hanging out at the mall and anybody wants to give them crap, I'll make it clear that I'll take my business elsewhere. I'll also let their bosses know about it, and I'll let them know how much money I spent there.

teens are the most misunderstood age group and its sad. it's unfortunate the bahaviors adults fine the most annoying happen to be the most normal. I don't think I agree with that idea too much...

Teenagers at malls are just fine. At the mall near me, there are lots of teenagers. They go to the movies. They eat. They even wear clothing. They spend money. All those things cost money. And they also behave just fine.

If the mall is full of fully clothed teenaged girls, then somebody spent money. When they fill up with naked teenage girls, then we can debate whether that is costing anybody any business.

Nobody said anything about the mall filling up with naked teenage girls...I think you're projecting. :)

Then they must be buying clothing. If that does not convince mall management, I don't know what does.

i think malls shouldnt have teen curfews because they are at the mall and not somewhere where they can do something that they are not suppose to be doing.
