After just 20 minutes of talking to Gil Grissom, Rick was annoyed and frustrated. He had asked peculiar questions, intrusive questions and some unbelievably insensitive questions. At one point, Jon had to restrain his friend from punching the Crime Scene Investigator.
"I'm just trying to do my job, Mr.Warden. I can't do that if you don't fully cooperate."
"Just find her! Why are you just standing there? Why are you moving so slowly?"
"Sometimes, if you want to get somewhere quickly, you have to go slow?"
"What the f--k?" Rick was irrate.
Suddenly Captain Brass tapped Rick on the shoulder. "Why don't you come with me and we can talk down at the station."
"Why can't I stay here, just in case she comes back?"
"It would be easier for us to run operations from the station and I'm sure you'll want to be in the loop, Mr.Warden."
"Alright." Rick looked at Jon who was leaning against a police cruiser and observing the scene. Jon nodded at him. He understood that Rick wanted him to stay at the apartment and answer the phone in case Nat called. Then he left with the Captain.
As the they headed down the freeway, Rick began to chew nervously on his fingernails. Captain Brass felt for him.
"Does your wife have any enemies? Anyone that might want to harm her?"
"Not anymore."
"Not anymore? Explain."
"Well, there was this guy, but he's dead now."
"Go on."
"Tom Cruise was her nemisis. He died when he tried to crash our wedding a few years back. He accidentally fell into a bonfire. You might have heard about it. It was in all the papers. The police ruled it an accident but some people thought it was suicide."
"Oh yeah. I heard about that. I also heard some people thought your wife tossed him in there along with some DVDs of his."
"There's no proof of that! If anybody says they saw her do that, they're lying!! LYING!!"
"Ok, ok. Calm down. So it's not Tom Cruise then." Brass scratched his chin. "Do you have any enemies, Mr. Warden?"
"Well, there was this SAS officer and this tosser down at Riverside Studios but no one with murderous intentions."
"Who said anything about murder?"
"Be honest with me, Captain. What chances do I have of seeing Nat alive?"
"I'm sorry. I can't answer that question."
