| Sitting in the Dark, Part VI |
| 11.22.03 (2:15 pm) [edit] |
Nat woke up on the floor of the large empty room. Her head hurt like never before. She sat up and leaned against the wall. The TV was now hidden behind the wall panel and Tom was nowhere in sight. She successfully loosened the wires around her ankles. Soon she was able to slip out of them and spread her feet apart. Leaning on the wall, she got to her feet and staggered around the room. The only way out seemed to be down the poorly lit hallway through which she had been dragged. There were no exits down the hallway. Then she remembered that Tom had pulled a lever to open a wallpanel for the TV and DVD player. She staggered to the far end of the room where she saw 8 levers. Each lever had a title under it. Risky Business, Top Gun, A Few Good Men, Born on the Fourth of July, The Firm, Mission Impossible, Magnolia, Days of Thunder. She figured that one lever would be the way out. She pulled Risky Business.
Suddenly the ground began to shake. She looked around her and noticed that the ceiling was getting lower and lower. Desperately she pulled Born on the Forth of July. Suddenly, a panel opened and as she moved towards it, gallons of water started gushing out of it, filling the ever-shrinking room. She rushed back to the levers and pulled Top Gun and A Few Good Men. The ceiling stopped getting closer and a drain in the floor opened letting the water out. There was no escaping down the drain. She now had 4 choices left. She was scared and didn't know which lever to pull. She closed her eyes and did eeny-meenie-miney-moe. "Moe" landed her on Magnolia. Trembling with fear, she pulled the lever.
The ground began to shake again. "O sh-t!!" This time a wall panel opened and nothing came out of it. It opened to another long hallway. Nat entered gingerly. Her heart was pounding. She couldn't see what was at the end of the hallway but she moved forward steadily. When she was halfway down the hall, she heard the panel behind her close. There was no going back. Slowly but surely she reached the end of the hall. There was wooden door with a key in it. Nat held her breath and turned the key and then the doorknob. She slowly opened the door and peered inside. UGH! Another tiny room like the one she had been in. She was overwhelmed with disappointment. She fell to her knees and sobbed. Suddenly she heard something move in the corner of the room.
"Why are you crying? Don't you like Tom?"
Startled, Nat jumped backwards. A feminine figure came forward from the darkness. Nat averted her eyes when she realized the woman had a face like a mutant duck.
"Oh my God! Did Tom do that to you?" Nat pointed at her face.
"Do what? I was born like this."
"Oh! It's you, Penelope Cruz! For a minute you had me worried." Nat breathed a sigh of relief. "Do you know how to get out of here?"
"Sure, but why would you want to leave? Don't you want to spend every waking moment looking at Tom?"
"Jeebus!! He has you brainwashed!"
To be continued...
